Last night I was very privileged to be invited to enjoy the stunning London skyline up at the top of The Gherkin and to also view the new collection of Osiris glasses designed by fashion designer Jorgen Simonsen. I have to say what a combination, London sunset mixed with beautiful glasses. So what did I get up to exactly… apart from checking out the glasses in great detail (I was even staring at the hinges for a while- what a geek!) I was enjoying the London sunset, sipping champagne, enjoying a DJ set by Henry Holland with Giles Deacon and chatting to Tim Vincent about glasses, Vegas and my honeymoon.
So who is Jorgen Simonsen and what is Osiris? Osiris is an eyewear brand which is exclusive to Specsavers and designer Jorgen basically revamped the Osiris collection buy adding some of his signature elements. Jorgen is a Scandinavian designer based in Paris, if you are not a fashion geek then let me tell you this guy has designed some of THE MOST iconic gowns for some very famous ladies such as Madonna, Nicole Kidman and Dame Elizabeth Taylor. He has worked for some of the most famous houses including Versace, Chanel and Givenchy.
Do you remember the green plunging see through jungle print gown worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammy Awards? Do you also remember Sarah Jessica Parker’s Golden Globe outfit which made underwear as outerwear as the fashion trend? Well Jorgen was the man responsible for them and lets just say that dress Jennifer Lopez wore did cause quite a stir back then.
Jorgens signature look is the use of vibrant colours (right up my street) and the use of patterns. It sounds like the perfect marriage to me and translating it into eyewear should be interesting and exciting, and it was. I pretty much liked the entire collection which consists of 60 pieces in pretty much all the colours.
Jorgens trademark statement style is characterised in Osiris, which he describes as aspirational, vibrant and cosmopolitan.
“Glasses are such a big part of fashion these days, it’s a huge market with increasing focus on and demand for striking design. Osiris is bold, modern and empowering, a fusion of strong, contemporary shapes and materials with unusual detailing in a kaleidoscope of colours” explains Jorgen.
“It has been styled for people who ooze confidence, appreciate good design and are not afraid to stand out. I have always challenged convention in my design and this collection is no exception; the collection is for people who dare to be different and are happy to make a statement with their glasses.”
My favourite out of the range has got to be the Frosted Hi-Tech (far left image) The frosted look may not be something new but I particularly liked the design of one of the hinges. It was clever and something quite different to what you would see from a normal high street chain. The way the hinges (see I have spent A LOT of time staring at hinges) was is if it ever came lose all the optician has to do is give it a little squeeze and boom it is tightened. In fact the hinges were quite pretty and they fitted in nicely with the design.
Colour wise I think my favourite is the bright red frame (image far right) It is a really vibrant red and it just brightens up the face nicely. I think it will be quite a versatile frame to have because it can brighten up any outfit and look amazing on a night out with a dressy outfit. Alternatively if you want to go for the clashing look the vibrant red will pretty much clash with everything.
The collection is split into 3 categories- Colour Pop, Frosted Hi-Tech and Super Translucent so I am sure there will be something there for everyone. I like the range and I think they work well for a chain which is about offering customers value for money and still being fashionable. As I have always said the niche expensive glasses are amazing but not everyone can afford them and it is not fair if you want to have fashionable frames but cannot afford the price tag. Eyewear is just like fashion, it is about offering something for everyone to suit all budgets but at the same time not losing too much of the quality (hopefully).
Now here is the all important information… when are they available? The 2013 Osiris eyewear collection by Jorgen Simonsen is available at Specsavers from 14th August and is included in its current two for one offer where two complete pairs are available for £125.
Osiris will be available internationally as follows: the Netherlands, 7th August; Australia and New Zealand, 26th August; Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, 2nd September.
Finally above are just some photos of me hanging out with some pretty naked models just wearing glasses with painted bodies, then chatting to Tim Vincent and enjoying the DJ set from Henry Holland, Giles Deacon and hanging out with them behind the deck Pixie Geldof.
