As we are now in October, we are actually only about 17 weeks away from the opening of 100% Optical 2015! So yes that also means we are about 11 weeks away from Christmas- sorry, I know you are all probably still trying to get over the summer. The organising of the show is starting to pick up momentum and the team behind the show is working hard to make sure the second show will be even bigger and better. Today marks another new partnership between 100% Optical and the association of British Dispensing Opitcans (ABDO).
For us consumers who just go into an opticians to buy our frames probably have no idea what a dispensing optician is and what it is they do. What is the difference between them and a shop assistant? Well here are some facts for you – a dispensing optician is someone who is qualified to advise you on different types of lenses and what frames will be suitable to fit your prescription of lenses. They can also advice you on style and the weight of the frame taking into consideration what lenses you will need. They are the ones who can interpret your prescription from your optometrist and able to fit your new frame onto your face properly. So their role is pretty important in getting you the perfect pair of glasses. So what is ABDO doing at the show?
Well, they are there to educate the future dispensing opticians as well as their existing members AND they will have a bar area where they can all socialise, network and exchange ideas on how to give customers the best service! That isn’t the most exciting thing though, during the 3 days show the ABDO will be hosting a frame workshop. This will give the opportunity for ABDO members to come along and give frame making a go with some of the most experienced craftsmen in the business. They will learn about how frames are assembled and will gain a better understand of frames and how they work with the lenses in greater depth which is only a benefit to us as customers.
All in all, a very exciting show is merging and I am very much looking forward it. I am excited to be a part of it again. Keep following the blog and twitter to get all the latest updates. In the mean time have a nice weekend and enjoy this October sunshine! See you back here on Monday!
