If you have been following the MGAM blog from day one then you may know a little secret of mine, I have an obsession with Hello Kitty! I have loved that cat since the days when I lived in Hong Kong. I was six years old and now at the grand old age of 30 my passion for this cute cat still remains and I can only hope one day I will have a daughter so I can pass down my Hello Kitty collection to her (by the way it is quite an impressive collection!) As I was writing about RetroSuperFuture Spring/Summer2015 collection I was having a nose at their website and I think I nearly had a mini heart attack… what did I see? They have brought out 3 Hello Kitty sunglasses styles for kids. How I wish they were for adults so I could wear them but never mind.
The collection is small but RetroSuperFuture have browsed through the Sanrio archive and selected 3 of their most classic and popular Hello Kitty designs. then turned them into some seriously stylish artwork and incorporate those into the frame designs.
The frames are of course aimed at girls and good luck to any mums who are trying to get their boys to wear them but if any do manage it I would love to see a picture and you deserve a medal, hehe! The frame above is designed to have more of a unisex appeal but as I said before it is more likely they will appeal to girls than to boys. The dark navy acetate on the outside matches the inside pattern perfectly with the blue, white and red (very classic Hello Kitty colours).
Tortoiseshell is an eyewear classic so of course it had to be included within this mini collection. The acetate used on the outside for this frame is a rich havana acetate but the inside is a fun colourful Hello Kitty pattern against a white background which makes it really stand out.
Finally, the third piece is my favourite because they are pink and girlie, to me that is what Hello Kitty is all about. Not all girls like Hello Kitty but the ones that do are a bit girlie at heart. If I have a little daughter now that will be the frame I would buy for her because it is a very feminine silhouette with a butterfly shaped framed.
All the Hello Kitty sunglasses have a gold bow on the top left corner because Hello Kitty is never seen without her iconic bow on her left ear. For all parents out there who are considering buying a pair for your children as a christmas present then rest assured that RetroSuperFuture use Zeiss lenses to ensure your children’s eyes are well protected at all times because they are one of the best lens makers out there. Another benefit is all the sunglasses come with a cord which is attached to the arms of the sunglasses to minimise the chance of them losing their super cool frames. The packaging is also super cute! Basically I am totally gutted they do not make them for adults because I would buy all 3, I might have even converted them into optical frames so I could wear them ALL the time. Go to their website now and get them before they go!
