After all the hype and excitement leading up to 100% Optical, day one is over so what is the low down? Well, for 2015 the show was definitely bigger with even more exhibitors. I had a walk around a few times today and there are definitely some quirky niche brands out there which I will be checking out tomorrow so I am excited about that 🙂 I was also told by the organisers that tomorrow should be a really busy day. A little secret, over double the amount of people have actually registered to come to this years show which is really impressive itself because bearing in mind it is still a relitively new show. I know just because people register it doesn’t always mean they will show up but either way I think the footfall for this year will be much more compared to last year.
So how was my day? Busy is the word and being pregnant carrying a baby and walking around constantly was a challenge itself but I am not at all complaining because it is my job. The first thing I did was to check out the 11am fashion show which I enjoyed very much and you can read all about it here. Then I had a few appointments to go to with different brands to check out some of their 2015 ranges. From Ted Baker to a really cool French brand called OKO. With OKO I think I may have found a new brand that I could fall in love with because the way they are designed & made is extremely clever, the quality is unbelievably amazing, then I nearly had a heart attack when they told me the retail price! They are such good value!
All of the OKO frames use a new Korean technology which allows the acetate to be extremely thin. You may think thin acetate is easy to achieve BUT thin acetate frames are more prone to breaking and not able to handle very heavy prescriptions BUT this technology solves the problem. A really thin bit of stainless steel has been put into the acetate for extra reinforcement and make them really sturdy. I have seen many, many frames (after writing about glasses) for nearly 4 years but I have never seen anything like it. It is clever and I love it!
They also use great quality hinges and wait for it…. the retail price is around £150!!! To all my readers that are consumers… I think if you want a good quality frame that is affordable and durable I would say check out OKO rather than any of your mainstream “designer” brands because those brands you are just buying the name and the quality of them is, on the whole, not quite there in comparison.
So yes, seeing OKO was the highlight of the day for me and I am looking forward to seeing more of them and hopefully UK opticians will actually buy them for their stores. Then not forgetting the 100% Optical opening party because like last years it was pretty awesome and this year was no different. Drinks were flowing and when the music started there were even a mini dance off. All in all first day of the show I would say it was a success and everyone ended on a high. For now I am signing off because it is bed time for me and baby… we are tired! Don’t forget to follow me tomorrow either on the blog, twitter, instagram AND/OR Facebook for all the latest updates.
