Casting my mind back to couple of weeks ago when I was at Silmo Paris, it really was a fantastic place to explore and find new eyewear brands. On my second day at Silmo I came across a brand called Glassing. They are an Italian brand but they were first born in the summer of 2010 in Ibiza. What attracted me to the stand was their sunglasses range. They were really striking, the shapes, the unusual way of using materials and some of the decoration details were simply stunning.
I was quite drawn to the fact that most of the sunglasses were not complicated. Most of the styles are a simple lens with clever use of thin metal pieces as the structure for the sunglasses, holding everything in place. That makes all the sunglasses light to wear which is good for comfort.
Since the frames are quite simple in terms of how they are constructed, in certain styles they have used some really elaborate decorative features which I thought was a nice touch. It added the wow factor without being too over the top and still suitable for everyday wear. I would wear them on a daily basis if the UK weather permits because lets face it, we don’t get sunshine all that often.
As well as their awesome sunglasses range, they do a selection of optical frames too. They all follow the same ethos but in the optical range, there are more acetate styles available in comparison to the sunglasses range. I did speak to the founder during Silmo and at the moment he said his frames are not as popular in the UK compared to the rest of Europe, because he said that the UK market seems to be more reserved. I can understand where he is coming from BUT I know there are people in the UK who are ready for these super stylish frames.
All Glassing frames are hand made in Italy so rest assured the quality is top notch. If the frames alone don’t wow you enough then check out their list of celeb wearers, Kate Moss, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Jay-Z, P.Diddy and Cristiano Ronaldo. The brand may be considered to be young but it has achieved so much in such a short space of time. It is continually growing and also expanding to the Asian Market. I can see these frame selling well over in Asian because they love quirky cool frames out there. If you want to check out Glassing yourself then follow the this link, I believe they are stocked in Harrods in London.
