Just like that, Taylor Morris Eyewear have stepped into the 3rd year of their eyewear adventure. I still remember meeting them when they first started out, viewing their very first collection. It is amazing to think how much they have achieved in such a short space of time. I know a lot of people will think it is because Hugo is a celeb himself and all his mates are from Made in Chelsea therefore, of course, it is going to be a success. However, can I argue that if the frames themselves are rubbish, poor quality, lack of substance and the wow factor, would you still want to wear them? The answer is probably no.
So the main reason for their success is the quality and constant improvement. From their very first collection to this latest one, they have learned quickly and improved massively.
This latest collection saw Taylor Morris collaborating with Morgan Motors to produce a 3 pieces capsule collection. It seems like the perfect collaboration between the two because both brands contain the same ethos of craftsmanship, charisma and quality materials. I was invited to the launch to view the range first hand, so, what did I think? Well, first of all I love cars. I may not look like the type of girl who loves cars but I do. I would almost class myself as a petrol head so I was highly excited to see this range.
The boys did not disappoint. The look of the frames had the real essence of Morgan motors. The finishing on the frames was immaculate and it almost felt like the frames were supposed to be part of the car. They did really well to pick some key elements from Morgan Motors and translate them into frame design. They were very aesthetically pleasing just like the cars and had that real heritage feel to them too. The boys have taken inspiration from the traditional 1930’s racing goggles for shape, using the Morgan 3 wheeler as the inspiration for their frames and added some details to the arms of the frames referencing the tail pipes.
There are only 3 pieces to this collection and all the colours are very muted, they are what I would call your classic colours, the timeless colours which go perfectly with Morgan Motors which is a real classic heritage brand. All of them come with Carl Zeiss CR39 Polarised lenses which are fantastic because polarised lenses are perfect for driving, another very nice, clever little touch from the boys.
Enough about me talking about them, best thing to do is to take a look for yourself and try them on. They are available at Harvey Nichols over in Knightsbridge, London. If you can’t get to the store then you can buy them online right here. They are retail at £240 each and it is a piece worth investing.
