Aloha readers, if you have been following me on my blog and my social media for a period of time, then you are probably aware I am a bit of a fan of Maui Jim sunglasses. They just make great sunglasses and I do feel they are helping me to see my surroundings better. I know Maui Jim is quite well known, but recently, they have broken their mould a little and done a collaboration with Vinylize.
Vinylize is an eyewear brand where all the glasses are made out of old Vinyl records. What a great way to recycle them and to have a cool concept too. The frames from this collaboration are called Hula Blues and each one, you guessed it, has been handcrafted from an old vinyl record. The interior of the frames are covered by the vibrant artwork of the album label, then to finish off, each pair has been fitted with Maui Jim PolarizedPlus2 lens technology lenses.
This is a limited collection and from chatting to the UK sales director, they are selling like hot cakes. Only 6000 pieces will be produced so if you want to get your hands on a pair then you need to get in there quick, they have been on sale for a few weeks now. The best thing to do is to head to the Maui Jim website and check out their list of stockists to see who is stocking them.
If you haven’t already, check out the video link above. They made a special video for the collaboration to show you how they are made. It is quite fascinating and it will help you to understand why the price tag maybe a little on the high side. The recommended retail price is around £300 but they are handcrafted and you are getting a set of fantastic lenses. Go and check them out and see for yourself.
