A trusty copy of an optical industry magazine came through my door today and I have found a very interesting article inside and I thought I will share it with you guys to see what you all think. Apparently using mixed materials for frames is “in” at the moment with the fashion scene but I am not convinced.
According to this article because mixed materials are in fashion the optical industry are using the idea with frame design, such as mixing metal with plastic but is this really a new idea?
For me personally I have seen metal and plastic being used together many times so for me personally I do not feel it is some kind of breakthrough. However, what I am seeing a lot lately with eyewear is the use of leather within the frame design. Leather seems to be a popular choice with it usually being featured on the sides of the arms. I have of course seen it on the Silhouette sunglasses range not so long ago.
I am certain this whole mixed material thing is not new in the optical world, especially if it is metal with plastics. The use of leather however is definitely a newer idea. In terms of fashion, the tropical print is big this season and so is the use of lace and chiffon (or just anything sheer). So maybe we should try to incorporate that into eyewear, now that will be a challenge 😉 Bring it on.
