I am pretty sure most people out there have heard of the shoe brand TOMS or some may call it TOMS shoes One for One. I still remember when I first heard about the brand, it was back in maybe 2008/2009 when Marie Claire did a double page spread on TOMS. I still remember thinking to myself what a great concept, why didn’t I come up with that!? I was intrigued by these shoes though because everyone kept raving about them and I was seeing celebs wear them left right and centre- I mean are they THAT good? Later on all my friends were wearing them so I tried on my friend’s pair… I was hooked! I can now see what the fuss is all about, they really are the most comfortable things I have ever worn!
Now… how many of you out there know TOMS have also just launched an eyewear range? The concept it is still the same One for One. For every pair purchased TOMS will help give sight to a person in need. How amazing is that??? The other great thing is the frames are god damn gorgeous too.
TOMS One for One
TOMS’ Founder and Chief Shoe Giver, Blake Mycoskie, says: “Ever since 2007, I’ve realised the TOMS One for One model could do more than give shoes – it could and should address other needs around the world.
“Sight is a fundamental need. The loss of sight has a dramatic impact on a person’s life – and on his or her family and community. We’re so excited to help more people in need and for the TOMS community in the UK to give in a whole new way.”
In Partnership with Seva Foundation Based in northern California, Seva has been implementing sustainable blindness prevention and sight restoration programs for over 30 years. Seva programmes and partners have helped nearly three million people worldwide to see again. The first countries in which TOMS will help to give sight are Nepal, Cambodia and Tibet.
Some people may feel the brand TOMS is a bit of a gimmick with the whole One for One concept and it is just a bit of clever marketing to get us part with our hard earned cash but does it really matter? Who cares? We as consumers don’t even have to do any of the hard work and we are helping someone in need just simply by going shopping (which is probably most people’s favorite hobby anyway) so stop moaning and start buying!
As you can see from all the images these TOMS sunnies are super spexy and here are some facts for you about them. They are made in Italy, each style has an iconic design striping detail. The hand-painted stripes on TOMS sunglasses symbolises the three elements of One for One. The first stripe on the temples represents the purchaser. The stripe on the tips represents the person to whom the customer is helping give sight. And the middle stripe represents TOMS, bringing the two together. Further colours will be launched into the collection this summer.
I am totally sold on the frame designs themself and the One for One thing is a bonus. You will be buying a pair of quality gorgeous Italian made frames AND helping someone at the same time. So what are you all waiting for??? Go and check out their website and get your little plastic friend out! The only problem I would have is deciding which one to buy!?
Go and be a part of the TOMS movement- One for One.
