I am sure from my last few blog posts you are getting the drift of what Hong Kong is like and this will be my final post on this great little island. For the final post I am going to share with you the nightlife of Hong Kong. Apart from Ibiza I think Hong Kong has to be one of my favourite places for a good night out.
Traditionally Chinese are not big drinkers and we don’t binge drink either! Infact back in the day going out partying was seen as a bad thing to do but now people are much more open to it. The main places to go out in Hong Kong are Lan Kwai Fong (also known as LKF) and Soho. LKF contains a fairly steep hill with bars going all the way down the street with more bars and clubs down the side streets and Soho is like the expat district which makes me feel like I am on a night out in London.
LKF and Soho are quite close together but I much prefer LKF because its got a “you are on holiday” kind of atmosphere all the way down the street. There are also many random street sellers selling you things and one of them tried to sell me flashing glasses so how could I resist?
She was trying to sell them to me for $60 which is about £5 and I managed to haggle her down in price to $25 which is about £2. haha! By the way one tip for you all, if you ever go to Hong Kong always haggle especially in the street markets but just don’t do it in posh department stores of course. I was fairly proud of that price but sadly these glasses didn’t make it back in my suitcase because it was that packed!
As well as my bargain flashing glasses, as we were making our way down the steep hill we saw… wait for it…. drum roll…. Jean Claude Van Damme having a pint of Guinness so I have cheekily asked him if he could have a photo with my fiancé since he is a huge fan of his martial arts stuff.
So that was quite random and unexpected. Who knows what Mr Van Damme was doing in Hong Kong but he was a nice guy and if he happened to come across this blog then I want to say thank you for your time and interesting glasses Mr Van Damme, where are they from? hehe.
I think I can safely say I had a great time in Hong Kong so now readers you can understand why I have been slacking on the blogging front but please do forgive me, apart from having loads of fun I met the designer of m.kenics eyewear who has an exciting project to come 😉 so watch this space! By the way if you are going to Hong Kong then feel free to drop me an email or just take me with you to be your personal tour guide- I don’t mind!
A few things to remember about Hong Kong… Mong Kwok, Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) are great for shopping, Sai Kung is great for seafood, Tai Po is good for hiking, Sai Wan for amazing beaches and finally Lan Kwai Fong for the most awesome night life. I also highly recommend a club called Level’s, check it out!
I hope you have enjoyed reading about my Hong Kong trip as much as I enjoyed being there and to be honest, I wish I was still there… dreaming….
