Not too long ago I wrote about pretend wooden frames- you know the one by Paul Vadim if not you can read it again here! Well this time I am going to write about actual wooden frames by Feb31st. Wooden frames are slowly becoming more and more popular in the UK but I think around Europe they have been all over them for ages. Once again it just shows how behind we are in the UK with eyewear and dare I say it… not very open to new things!?
People may find it odd to wear frames that are made out of wood especially when almost all frames out there are made out of some sort of plastic or metal but wood does actually make pretty good frames. Just think of all the wooden furniture you can buy with many different colours and even a simple method like staining the wood can turn it into a different colour. You can achieve the exact same thing with wooden frames.
As you can see from the picture above you can achieve some really vibrant colours with wood. The wood is actually stained in that colour to ensure the colour does run through. If it is just painted then only the top layer would be coloured and not the rest. The great thing about using wood is the shape will stay put unlike acetate, as with constant wear the shape may change slightly. These guys in Feb31st know a lot about wood, they are infact an expert in wood. All handmade in Italy and the company has been making things such as baseball bats for the America MLB which is rather impressive!
Sounding good so far? Well there is more to come. With Feb31st you can personalise your own frame! By that they mean you can pick what ever colour combination you want because they are all made to order. So if you fancy a rainbow of colours then that is possible because they will sandwich the colours you have picked together. As well as picking the colour you want, I think my favourite thing about them is they can engrave whatever wording you want.
You know what… I think these glasses will make THE PERFECT gift for someone special because you can engrave all kinds of messages. For opticians out there who are interested in Feb31st, don’t worry about how hard they are to glaze because they have come up with a VERY CLEVER solution which makes them super duper easy to glaze and I reckon even I could do it and let’s face it I am no expert with glazing.
Interested? well check out their website HERE to find out more. My dream pair would be Purple (always purple), yellow, orange, light blue and a spot of lime green with Siu @ MGAM engraved 😉
