So vinyl records… if you are a 50’s, 60’s, 70’s or even an 80’s baby then you will probably know what they are and may even have some laying around. For you “noughties” babies or later your version of a vinyl record is probably what we now called a CD which still about exists (just about!). In a nutshell a vinyl record is a bit of plastic which holds music but MUCH bigger than a CD and now days they pretty much extinct. However you may come across them in charity shops or specialist music shops which still sells them so yeah, they are more of a collectable, retro thing now.
My personal memory of a vinyl record was when my dad used to play Paul Simon on the record player and you are all probably thinking I have gone mad because this has nothing to do with glasses- well you are all wrong! You lot… meet an eyewear brand called Vinylize which are sold on a sophisticated online shop called Pretavoir.
Pretavoir is not like your ordinary online shop! Most online shops I have come across are borderline tacky but not this one! I am sure you guys will all agree Vinylize is a cool brand. It may seem a bit crazy to make glasses out of vinyl but why not, it is a type of plastic and it is recycling which is saving the polar bears and the penguins (don’t forget the penguins!). However, I would not recommend you to start raiding through your parent’s vinyl records and start trying to producing your own glasses because 1) It is not easy to make considering it took Vinylize 10 years to fine tune their methods 2) your parents may kill you because you have broken all their collectable records which may be worth thousands and 3) you can just go and buy a pair of Vinylize from Pretavoir!
All The frames are hand made with love from Budapest in Hungary so you are seriously getting a pair of bespoke glasses, 2 frames will never be exactly the same. Just think, you may even be wearing a piece of history because that vinyl record that has been turned into glasses will never be available to buy again as a record! All the shapes are super cool and yes they are all black frames but vinyl records are all black so there isn’t a lot we can do about that but there is a hint of vibrant colour within the detailing which I think it is a nice touch.
As well as the great frames the case that comes with them is also pretty cool. The cases are made out of an actual 7inch vinyl record, folded in half with a zip sewn on to ensure the glasses stay protected.
If you are not an optical wearer but love the brand then a sunglasses option is available and they are just as awesome which you can buy from Pretavoir also. The frames start from £275. Go check them out, you will be getting something that is handmade and definitely one of a kind- go, go and check them out and see for yourself and you noughties kids- CD’s are no way near as cool as vinyl’s.
