It’s nearly the weekend and you know what I am so looking forward to it! Today has been a manic day and I was very quiet on the twitter front just because I had to be focused plus I had to dash off to a new eyewear launch too. This new eyewear range is called Termite and it is designed by two young fashion graduates and good on them trying to do their own thing! On first impression of the range I thought they were really fun, playful and bold statement pieces. The first thing that came to my mind was what great pieces for a photoshoot or if you just want to make a statement with your sunglasses.
Like with any eyewear launch I always take a closer look to inspect the frames because that is just how geeky I get with glasses. The hinges were definitely a winner for me- they have picked well and have used good quality hinges but I wasn’t madly in love with them when I tired a pair on because the bridge just didn’t fit me. With wooden frames the bridge is all in one like some acetate frames and with that type of design it is extremely hard for my Asian nose as our noses are much smaller.
As for wooden frames go I feel they have lots of other really strong competitors on the market because looking at the frames as they stand now I would buy another brand just because I am not keen on the finishing. However this may be down to my personal taste as I like things to be more polished and finished especially with glasses. With eyewear, the whole rough and raw thing doesn’t work for me.
I had a chat with the girls about the designs and I did point out my concerns regarding to the bridge issue and they took it on board as eyewear is something very new to them. They decided to go into eyewear because they thought it was a different way to work with wood. Since it is their first collection and they are new to the industry I am sure their future collections will improve and get better and better within time. I look forward to seeing their next collection!
