Last Thursday before the start of the long weekend I was at the Luxottica Press day and I mentioned I saw a pair of glasses that retail for £6000! I bet none of you believed me when I said that. Well here is the evidence! This pair of D&G frames are super exclusive with only 70 pairs produced and only TWO are being sold in the UK (exclusively at Harrods). So if you fancy getting yourself a pair because you want to splash the cash then you better be quick otherwise you may not actually be able to get a pair.
What is so special about these frames that warrants a whopping £6000 price tag?
Well the mosaic (or as D&G call it, Mosaico) design is hand painted and laid by hand like a real mosaic. There are 7 layers altogether and each layer is hand painted then laid. Each layer has to be dried first before the next layer can go on so it is a real intricate and time consuming work of art. Imagine doing that 7 times on each frame and there are 70 of them! No wonder they can only produce 70 and no more! Just to wow you even more… the sunglasses above, just on one arm took pretty much 1000 pieces to make!
Like me if you loved the mosaic artwork on the sunglasses but cannot afford the £6000 price tag then there are cheaper alternatives, well not majorly cheap but not ridiculous at £6000. They have a range of optical and sunglasses which feature just a hint of the artwork on the arm and use around 45 mosaic pieces to complete.
The finishing is just as beautiful and they really are a work of art. I am totally in love with them just because of how intricate they are which makes them extra special. If you fancy treating yourself then head to Sunglasses hut for the sunglasses style at £340 and go to David Clulow for optical style (price TBA).
