Mother’s day is upon us so have you all got your mums a present yet? Well, don’t panic if you haven’t because you have still got this weekend to shop around and if not, a bunch of flowers or taking your mum out for lunch/dinner is always a winner. With mother’s day approaching and me being pregnant it got me thinking about my mum and what sort of mum I want to be. I want to be just like my mum, thinking back to my childhood she really was the most amazing mum and still is the most amazing mum to me and my brother, even though we are now both over 30. Her love for us never stops and it grows as my brother and I grow older too. So I want to dedicate this post to my mum as well as giving you readers some mother’s day gift idea.
I think sometimes I don’t show my mum how much I appreciate her, especially when she nags at me or just generally being too “mumsy”. I know deep down she only wants what is best for me and wants to make sure I am ok. She is one of those mums who is absolutely selfless and will always put her children first. To some it may sound strange because being a mum you should put your children first but I can assure you… not all mums are like that. I know a few of them but they all think they are but are really not at all. Over the years I am very grateful for my mums (and my dad- he is just as awesome) support in everything I have done so far. Traditionally Chinese parents only like their kids doing very academic subjects in uni but mine just wanted me to do something I enjoyed which was Fashion Design. They didn’t care what any of my other family members said and just encouraged me to do what I wanted. Just like when I wanted to start my own business with MyGlassesAndMe… again like most Chinese parents they didn’t think I was mad but just supported me.
My mum is also the most laid back person, she really does’t care about mother’s day. She just thinks it is all so commercial and I think my brother and I actually make more fuss than she does. These gift ideas I have for you are actually inspired by my mum because she is now over 50 and at an age where she needs to wear glasses to read things (you get the picture). So check out the gift ideas below and maybe some will be handy for your mum too.
Are they helpful? I know I am very lucky to still have my mum around because I do know a few people who are not be as lucky and have lost their mum through cancer and other causes. I also understand not everyone gets on with their own mother for what ever reason and I am sure for all valid reasons (in fact couple of my cousins really dislike their mum). I just feel blessed I don’t have any of these problems to deal with. My mum is just my mum and the word mum to me means she is simply awesome and I will not be the person I am today without her love, care, constant support. She is a friend to talk to who never judges me, puts up with my moodiness and just is herself. When I become a mum if I am just half as good as she is my children are very lucky. On that note have a great weekend and enjoy this spring like weather! Exciting!!! See you back here on Monday.
