So two weeks ago I went along to the launch of the all new Specsavers collection by Hackett and another by Aurora designed by Twiggy. I did do a quick preview post on the night and I apologise that it has taken me two weeks to do the full write up. The baby has been a little demanding and I have been a little under the weather too so poor husband.

Hackett London Eyewear

A couple of weeks ago I headed to London to preview the latest eyewear range coming to your local Specsavers store. They were Hackett and Aurora by Twiggy. Hackett is a well known British brand for the gents which started back in 1979 and now in 2015, the brand is still going from strength to strength. It was exciting to hear they have launched a more affordable range exclusively for Specsavers.  They have already got an eyewear range but it is high end so I understand not everyone will be able to afford the hefty price tag, but fret no more.

The eyewear range is designed by the very talented guys over at Mondottica who hold the licence to design and produce the frames (even the high end ones). It is safe to say they know what they are doing as they work very closely with the Hackett team to ensure everything is on brand. The range is designed to suit gents age 50 plus. The 12 piece collection looks very simply yet effortlessly stylish for all the fashion conscious gents out there. Even if you are not too bothered with fashion, they will suit your needs too because all the shapes and colours are classics, I can even see my dad in them (he is the last person to care about fashion).

The Hackett collection is mainly dominated by metal frames but (a generalisation here) I think most gents in that age bracket do prefer metal rather than acetate. I personally really like some of the details such as the different textures in the finishing and the subtle logo.

Aurora – Twiggy’s range

Moving onto the Aurora range by Twiggy. I think Twiggy needs no introduction as I am pretty sure everyone is probably familiar with the name but for those who really don’t have a clue, she is one of the most famous models back in the 60’s.  The year 2016 marks Twiggy’s 50 years in the fashion business and to celebrate such special occasion she has launched an eyewear range with Specsavers!

Twiggy (who is now in her 60’s) still looks fantastic and of course she is the face of her own eyewear range. The collection has been designed for women who are a similar age to herself who want to add a bit of fun into their eyewear. Her aim was to design a collection that is elegant, stylish and glamorous. You know what? I think she certainly has achieved that.

The collection is rather small and only consists of 6 styles but they are good strong styles which should last the test of time. The shapes are all pretty safe and so are most of the colour choices, with a bit of added gems to bring some sparkle to the range. For those of you who are not aware Twiggy herself has actually been wearing glasses for more than 20 years so as well as designing a range of frames with fashion in mind, she also knows and understands what a wearer would want from a pair of glasses.

The collection is not my cup of tea but then again it is not supposed to appeal to ladies in my age bracket. However I can definitely see a few of my friends mums wearing them. Even though they are not my thing I do think the collection is beautiful and very sophisticated. My favourite is the blue tortoiseshell (below), very unusual and striking.

If you like either of the collections then all you have to do is head down to your local Specsavers. Twiggy’s range will be available at the beginning of November (so about now) but the Hackett range is a little more of a wait as they will not be available until early December.  They might make a nice Xmas treat for your dad/man in your life.
