As you are all aware I am now working with the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians (FMO) and Optrafair on all things social media. Yesterday I was invited along to the FMO members meeting just so I can really understand how the FMO operate and interact with their members. Yesterday was an education for me; I did learn a lot about the industry not only what happens during the member’s meets.
My consumer readers may have no interest in this post because the FMO is about the industry. It may still be an interesting read because the FMO do feed through a lot of industry information. So technically by reading about the FMO you are getting first-hand information about what is happening in the optical world. So it could be handy if you are a glasses wearer like myself.
The FMO has been established since 1917! Next year that makes them 100 years old and that is an achievement. They were first set up to help the UK optical industry, but as you can imagine a lot of changes do take place over such a long period of time and for optical, it is no different. Over the next few years, there will be a lot of changes taking place within the FMO, be prepared to be amazed! You will all be shocked by how much will change.
The FMO has acknowledged change is needed to move forward in this industry and it is not just going to happen overnight. We are excited to be working closely with the FMO to help them move forward. It is a very exciting project to be involved in because we are at the heart of the operation for the optical industry. Here at MyGlassesAndMe we care about other areas of the industry too as well as fashion and eyewear. For the time being please stay up to date with what is happening by either following us on social media or the FMO’s social media channels. The FMO website will be having a facelift soon, but in the meantime, you can find out more about who they are and what they do by clicking on this link.
