Here we are at the end of 2016. By the way, sorry for forgetting to sign off properly before Christmas and wishing you all a Happy Christmas. I hope you all had a good one and are looking forward to 2017. I always enjoy writing the end of the year post because it is the time to reflect on what has been achieved and if goals are not reached then how can we fix it in the coming year. At the start of 2016 I was still on maternity leave (until beginning of May) so it was a slow start. Coming back into work after all that time off was daunting to say the least.
Fashion moves quickly, eyewear a little slower but blogging is a fast paced industry so after taking over a year out I felt very out of place. I wasn’t sure where I would go from there because the reality is, you do lose contacts (or people forget you) despite my best efforts to stay in touch while dealing with a demanding baby. It is safe to say 2016 wasn’t an easy start and it did take a while for me to get back into the swing of things.
Towards the end of June I had a very interesting proposal from the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians (FMO). They approached me to work for them as their digital marketing consultant specialising in the social media side of things which was right up my street. Then in August I went onboard to join the FMO organising their show Optrafair, again focusing on the digital marketing side of things.
From Summer 2016 onwards, it has been none stop for us especially since around the same time my former editor of WGSN went freelance and suggested I should put my focus on trend forecasting specifically for frames. It is something she is working with me on and it is still in the development stages now. The Trend forecasting service, MGAM Acuity, is something aimed at the optical industry and it is something I am very proud of. It combines all the knowledge I have gained over the years from fashion PR, digital marketing and of course eyewear and putting them all in one place.
I am hoping to launch MGAM Acuity in Spring 2017, so not long at all. I am excited and nervous, but that just normal with launching any new business venture. We are very nearly at the stage where we are ready for testing so if you are a frame designer, frame buyer, optician, sales rep or just have an interest then please sign up to be one of our beta testers.
We are looking forward to another busy year in 2017 and we hope you like MGAM Acuity! Here’s to another successful year!
