On Monday 12th December I was invited along to a very special event held at Claridges. I was actually rather excited by this invite because er pop royalty… Kylie Minogue was launching an eyewear collection, an affordable one too, so any one of us can get Kylie’s look. This is Kylie’s first ever eyewear collection and it is an exclusive collection for Specsavers.
You may not be aware but Kylie does wear glasses and according to our host for the event Emma Willis, Kylie was forever wearing glasses during The Voice rehearsals.
Getting back to the frames, there are 25 optical styles and 5 sunglasses styles which is a rather large range I am sure you can all agree. Kylie designed the range herself (with help from the design team at Specsavers of course).
The collection is based on 3 key themes which are, modern classic, subtle bling and reinvented vintage. I think the titles pretty much speak for themselves and don’t need much of an explanation. They all reflect a different side to Kylie and her eyewear choices.
When Kylie was designing this range, she also requested to have some of the styles to be made available for petite faces because she has got a very petite face herself and always struggled to find frames that fitted her. I have to say, if I ever do my own range, I will certainly focus on Asian fit so, well done Kylie for addressing an issue that matters to her.
During the event at Claridges, Kylie did make an appearance on stage to talk about her collection and did a Q&A on the collection. On stage Kylie actually said she would love to see queen Elizabeth wearing her range, how great it is to be partnering with Specsavers to bring her vision to life and how it is so affordable.
Before Kylie came on stage, us lucky guests were treated to a small intimate private catwalk show showcasing some of Kylie’s favorites within the collection. In case you want to know which ones are her favourite (so you can grab yourself a pair), they are Kylie 5, Kylie Sun Rx 4 and Kylie 15 (See images at the bottom). However, the bad news is, you cannot get yourself a pair until Valentine’s day because that is when the collection will be available to buy. So, we still got a bit of time to wait.
My favourite within the collection was the Kylie 5 but in the pink colour, the colour was beautiful, very feminine and elegant (see image at the bottom), the colour and the frame just worked so well together.
So the MGAM verdict… I actually thought the collection was quite strong and had a well-rounded range of styles to hopefully suit everyone’s tastes. All the frames come with a flexi hinge which is a handy feature to have but fairly standard. The quality is not too bad at all considering they will be two pairs for £99 (bargain!).
However, a word of warning. You are not guaranteed to look as hot as Kylie when you wear her collection. I tried and tested them at the event and I can only wish I looked half as good as she does. We can all dream hey. Oh, one last thing I want to rave about is that I LOVED the glasses case! It is so cute and glamorous that I am sure I can wing it and use it as a small clutch bag.
Go to your local Specsavers on 14th February to get your hands on a pair 😉
