Marble eyewear is really becoming a thing and I don’t mean acetate made to look like marble but eyewear that are actually made from marble. I first came across that in Silmo 2016 but during Mido 2017, more brands were jumping on board with the idea. However, I wanted to pay special attention to Budri Eyewear because I was particularly impressed with the lightness of them.
Marble is of course not the lightest of material so I thought it was pretty crazy when I saw they are making eyewear out of them. To me, the lightness of a pair of glasses is an important element to us glasses wearer. However, I was impressed with the lightness of them considering they are made out of marble. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying they are really light like you are wearing nothing but they are light for marble and actually pretty comfy.
Budri is an Italian company and renowned all over the world for its marble craftsmanship and in 2016, they have decided to venture into the world of eyewear. Doing what they do best and using marble to create stunning eyewear, they are using some of the latest technology to ensure lightness and to create eyewear shapes which may be hard to achieve via the ordinary marble cutting method.
At the moment marble eyewear is still very new to the optical industry and only a handful of companies are producing them since it is a specialist material, but apparently, it is picking up interest across Europe as people are craving being unique and marble eyewear does offer that. Even if 5 pairs of frames are made out of one block of marble, the outcome of them will not be the same, they will not look exactly the same due to the way marble is. I think if you can’t call that unique then I don’t know what is. Check them out here and get in touch with them to find a stockist near you.
