As you may or may not be aware, this time last year I started working for the FMO (Federation of Manufacturing Opticians) and my contract has ended back in early May this year. I have learned a lot about the optical industry working for them because they have such a rich history of the optical industry. They know the optical industry inside out because do you know why? They were established back in 1917 as a way of helping the UK optical industry move forward.
100 years on in 2017, we celebrated FMO’s 100th birthday in style, in the Royal Festival Hall in the western roof pavilion. Sipping bubbles and wine with a live band as the entertainment for the evening. The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone was having a fantastic time.
An organisation which lasted the test of time and reaching 100 years old is quite an achievement and certainly something worth shouting about. 100 years on, the FMO is still going strong, they are still here to help the UK optical industry, even though the industry itself has been through many changes and challenges. Optrafair was a show started by the FMO nearly 40 years ago, it is the longest running UK optical show and again the ethos behind the show is “here to help the industry”. Support the industry you are in and support the FMO because they are a not for profit organisation and here to help the UK optical industry in any way they can.
Happy Birthday, FMO! Here’s to the next 100 years and thank you for inviting me to celebrate this milestone with you.
