French brand Philipe Chevallier Eyewear is back and during optical trade show Silmo October 2017, the eyewear industry will have the opportunity to view the collection for the first time. For those who may not be familiar with the name, Philipe Chevallier started as a jewellery designer based in Paris, but in the late 60’s during a creative boom and at a time of the cultural revolution, very quickly he gained notoriety for the unique creations. He handcrafted for the runways of French Fashion houses Lanvin and Pierre Cardin, amongst others. His avant-garde flair is credited for introducing the concept of couture eyewear.

Once he has established himself as an influential eyewear, designer he went on to launch his eponymous brand in 1968 focusing solely on women’s acetate sunglass frames. His frames have been photographed by the likes of Guy Bourdain and collected by Sir Elton John. His vintage frames now sell at auction for up to $50,000, making them some of the most valuable in the world! Quite impressive for a pair of sunglasses.

Brando has acquired the license for Philipe Chevallier and indeed this a very exciting time for them by having yet, another impressive name under its belt. Brando’s Founder and CEO Michael Jardine say

“As a long-time collector of vintage eyewear I acquired the trademark for Phillipe Chevallier some years ago, so it is a great pleasure to be able to announce that we are introducing this influential brand back onto the market. We have worked alongside Phillipe to capture the joie de vivre of the original brand in the forthcoming collections. Reimagining such significant designs has been an incredible journey, and we are looking forward to sharing the results of that with the eyewear community at SILMO and beyond.”

At the moment, there are no images available for a sneak peak, but the above is one of the original image so you can get the vibe of what is to come and what we can expect to see. I will find out more information during Silmo I am sure and I am looking forward to seeing the collection myself. It should be amazing, I cannot wait!

If you are a buyer heading to Silmo then you can find them at the Brando Eyewear booth at SILMO 2017, hall 5 – 5d 140, 6-9 October. See you there and I will be there with the guys at The Eyewear Forum.
