The first brand I am going to talk about from Silmo 2017 is Absolute Vintage Eyewear which I spotted on my first day at Silmo. Why did they catch my eye? I have a confession to make, what actually caught my eye were the cool accessories they had on the stand which are made from the same acetate as the glasses. They had bow ties, bangles and more. The glasses were pretty cool too and exactly what I would expect from an Asian brand. The brand is from Hong Kong (my home city) and I don’t know, it is something about Asian design, they are just bolder and more experimental.
The shapes were all statement pieces and I really liked all the colours of the acetate. They had some striking colours combination and patterns too. For me personally, the reason why I love Asian brands is that they just fit my nose. Normally, acetate frames just don’t quite fit but Absolute Vintage just fits like a dream. That is something I find extremely hard to get over in Europe. The nose bridge has been built up to suit the flatter Asian nose and the temples have been extended so it sits on the ears better. Overall, the outcome is just a much better fit. The company is based in Hong Kong and the founder of the brand has had over 20 years of experience within the eyewear industry, but decided now is the time to do his own thing.
I wish the brand much luck in the future and I hope to visit their store in Hong Kong when I next go back to visit my family. Even if you aren’t a fan of the glasses, do check out the range of cool accessories they have to offer, for gents, I highly recommend the bow tie. Check them out here.
