I am sure all my readers have probably heard of me mentioning the Tom Davies bespoke service. I have now been blogging for over 6 years and throughout the years, Tom Davies PR team have offered me a complimentary service numerous times and I declined each time. This is only because I have so many frames and I think “they all fit ok so no need for the service”. However, as time went by and I have more knowledge of eyewear and I am finding my glasses that “fit” could in fact be better.

I love an acetate frame but only a handful of brands offer Asian fit in Europe or offer them with nose pads. I have over 20 pairs of glasses but only 3 of them actually fits really well so I thought enough was enough. I decided it was time to take up the Tom Davies bespoke service and have a pair of glasses that actually fit PERFECTLY.

I was invited to the newly opened Covent Garden store last week to experience the bespoke service. On first impressions walking into the store, I was impressed. The store was sleek and really not your average optical store. I went straight in for my eye examination and that itself was impressive. It was an hour long because they literally check everything to do with your eye health, not just your sight and the basic eye health checks.

The reason why I say that it is because they have a special Zeiss OCT scanner which is used by Moorfield eye hospital. The OCT scanner is available in selected independent opticians but it is never connected to all the other test results produced by other machines to give a really precise data. Therefore this one offers a detailed and in-depth results which give the opticians a full 360 degrees picture of your eye health. I was super impressed and lucky for me, my eyes are in very good health.

Trying on glasses was, of course, the fun bit. I was quite happy for the team to pick what frames they think suits me. If it was left to my own devices, I will probably try on every single pair in the shop then not be able to decide. Ha! The team did not disappoint, the selections they had were great and the hard part was to narrow them down. In the end, it was down to two frames, both very different to each other. One was a rather feminine style with a slight catseye vibe and the other was a unisex style with very modern chic/smart feel.

After much debate and lots of putting on and taking off of both glasses, I went for the modern chic. It also took a while to decide on the colour I wanted but in the end, I stuck to my favourite colour purple. The purple they had really stood out to me as it was mixed with a bit of black. It just looked amazing when I tried it on. I also went for matt finish since I do not have any matt finish glasses.

Once the fun bit is over, it is down to business to get all the important measurements to ensure the glasses fit me perfectly. I tried on 2 different measuring glasses for the nose bridge but Tom Davies has 90 different nose fit glasses to try that suit all shapes and sizes. Then it was the head measurements, the temple (side of the head) measurements and making sure the width of the glasses will sit perfectly across my face. It was all very precise.

I am extremely looking forward to getting them back and be sure to read the follow-up blog post to see how they fit and whether I am happy with the end result. The service I received from the bespoke team was amazing, I was super impressed with the whole process from beginning to end. Now, I just want to wear them. Stay Tuned!
