So, Silmo 2018! First of all, the decision to go was quite a late one because I am still technically on maternity leave. It was a tough decision to leave my 7.5-month-old baby at home. However, I wanted to attend because my editor from NZ Optics was at the show for 2 days only. So, off I went. It was literally a flying visit from me.
What did I think of the show? There were a few things which I particularly liked about the show…
They had a dedicated new startup area. I feel it is very important to support new businesses.
Hong Kong Brands
They had a small area dedicated to Hong Kong brands. Myself being Chinese (from Hong Kong), it was nice to see they had an area to support talent from Hong Kong.
I am seeing brands that have grown and grown in size over the years, that is also lovely to see.
My top 3 of Silmo 2018
So, apart from meeting my editor, what did I get up to? I was wandering around checking out some glasses of course and saying hi to brands who I know well and fond of. There were certainly some brands which caught my eye, I will do a separate blog post on my top 3 finds from the show. Keep an eye out on the next 3 blog posts (I will post links here once they have all been published).
There were so many brands to see and it is always hard to pick just 3 but I will give my reasons why they made my list of blog post. Plus, I saw so much cool stuff, it would be impossible to speak about every. single. one!
However, I do want to do a quick shout out to some brands that I loved but I do not have the time to do an individual post for each, due to being a mum and time poor!
Rigards which I covered in Opti, their new collection was just as impressive and experimenting with new techniques. Check out my previous post about them here.
Korean brand, Fake me. The eyewear itself may look ordinary but the concept and the finer details were pretty cool.
G-Spectacles, quirky designs, experimental with shapes.
Finally Soya, I loved the simplicity of the frames, simple lines but very elegant with fantastic quality.
Check out the photos below and check the brands out as well!
