Another environmental issue related post from MyGlassesAndMe. In the future, you may see more of these types of post because it is something we care about. We want to raise more awareness wherever possible that links to eyewear in some way. This campaign is called Save the Bees, launched by International Eyewear. An eyewear design house for some well-known fashion brands such as my favourite bag brand, Lulu Guinness and watch/ Jewellery brand Storm.
So, bees. Yes, I am talking about the tiny little insects that fly around our gardens. Bees that fly around all the pretty flowers to pollinate them and make honey. Did you know they are in danger? It’s not just the honey bees that everyone seems to know about but there are many other species of bees that are in danger of extinction. It is a serious problem. Bees are so important to our ecosystem because they are the pollinator of most ecosystems.
With the lack of bees to pollinate flowers and plants, less will grow, meaning less food and less habitable plants for animals to live in. Therefore, bees play a crucial part in our ecosystem. The main factors which threaten the survival of bees are the widespread use of pesticides, climate change, loss of habitat such as change of land usage (turning greenland to houses as an example).
For the new 2019 Ocean blue collection by International Eyewear, the location used to shoot the range was a beautiful British Garden. From that, it inspired them to donate £1 to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust for every set of Ocean Blue’s purchased to #SAVETHEBEES. What a great idea!
To all Opticians reading this post, you can help the bees by buying the collection to sell in your shop. To all the consumers reading this, if you buy a pair of Ocean Blue frames in your local opticians, you are also helping the bees. Basically, the more consumers buy, the more the opticians need to restock, meaning more money will go towards saving the bees. A very simple concept that doesn’t take any of our effort.
I did see the collection myself back in January. The collection is beautifully designed too with intricate details on the acetate and to ensure the wearer’s comfort, matt textured tips and silicone nose pads were chosen.
It is a collection I think is worth taking a look if you want something that is tastefully designed and affordable. Not forgetting, you are also saving the bees in what seems like a small way, but every little helps!
