Ok, so. Last night I was invited along to the collaboration launch for William Morris London (the eyewear brand) x William Morris (the famous artist, designer, writer and socialist). I know the name is probably confusing because both are called William Morris. Once you get your head around it, it’s easy and actually makes a lot of sense too. Why not have a collaboration between the two? It is a fantastic idea!
Incase you are not aware, William Morris is a famous artist, designer, writer and socialist from way back in 1834. It may be a very long time ago but his work was so ahead of it’s time and still so relevant now. People are still very much aware of his work and what he did for the world of arts. I remember learning about him in college. It was lovely and felt like a trip down memory lane for me.
William Morris the eyewear brand is a well known British brand established in 1996. Ever since, they have been giving consumers eyewear with a touch of British elegance and sophistication.
What do I think of the collection? My first impressions… wow!
They are beautiful, truly elegant and divine looking eyewear. Each frame looked so delicate like a piece of fine artwork that should be cherished. Each frame is a combination of metal with a hint of acetate. The layering of acetate is also very well done, it gives the frames different depth of colour at different angles.
The shape of the frames are all very wearable. I love the hint of the famous William Morris prints on the temples of each frame. Also, each glasses case and cloth are also decorated with some of the famous iconic William Morris prints. A truly beautiful and elegant collection where art meets craft.
The collection has not officially launched yet, but of course at the launch party we had a little preview. The RRP is still to be confirmed. For all my optical industry readers out there, you can view the full collection during Silmo 2019 happening at the end of September. Go and take a look!
