Oh my goodness, I cannot express how excited I was when I saw the press release for this. French eyewear brand Thierry Lasry is doing a collaboration with a very famous plastic doll, Barbie, to celebrate the 60th anniversary. This collaboration will see one Ken doll and three fashionista Barbie dolls kitted out with sunglasses that have an “inherently Thierry Lasry retro-futuristic sensibility”.
I was very excited by this collaboration because firstly, it is eyewear, secondly, it is a good eyewear brand and thirdly, I love Barbies. When I was a little girl that was all I used to play with. I know nowadays some people are dead against Barbies and I can see why. Would I let my daughter play with a Barbie? Yeah, why not, as long as I am there to guide her along. Barbie has changed its image and marketing strategies over the years too.
If you love Barbies then listen up because this collaboration comes in a box set and the whole thing will be a collectable item. Thierry Lasry produced only two sunglass styles for this collaboration. An elegant oversized cat-eye ‘Glamy’ for Barbie and ‘Galaxy’ a thick and bold rectangular style for Ken. Both styles are handmade in France and each come in two colour-ways.
The all-important information… where can you get yourself a box set? Well, I believe they are on sale now. They went on Sale beginning of November, just in time for Christmas. Visit thierrylasry.com, Berdorf Goodman, Selfridges, The Webster and several exclusive stockists carrying the Thierry Lasry brand to get your hands on a set. The collector box will retail at £400. If someone in your life loves Barbie and eyewear, I think this may be the perfect Christmas gift.
