I know fashion month feels like a lifetime ago now, especially with the pandemic happening. Do we even remember life before this? I have a vague memory. Ha! I know there are some critics saying the fashion industry should’ve taken more responsibility for the spread of COVID-19 because fashion month started back in early February and don’t forget Milan fashion week finished just before the outbreak happened in Italy. Some say the fashion industry should perhaps not fly so many people from all over the world to the shows and not have so many people crammed into one space to watch a show that lasts about 30 minute.
Either way, I don’t feel it is fair to just blame one industry. We, as individuals living on this planet should take responsibility for our own actions. I know most people at the moment are just staying at home and are not really going to be focused on how trendy they look. However, I still want to cover some of the eyewear trends I saw from the shows and what I feel will be big for A/W 2020 and going into S/S 2021. Just something to perhaps to look forward to when this is all over.
From looking at all the catwalk shows I can identify 3 key trends to focus on and if I really want to analyse further, there will be sub-trends emerging too but for now, we will focus on the big 3 or we may be here forever.
First trend: “bigger the better”
The title I have given it says it all really. Glasses shapes that are big, exaggerated and make your face look a bit smaller than it is. From this trend, if we want to look into it further we are also seeing some shield style shades coming through. Shield shades not for the ski slope, but for normal wear, just because.
Second trend: “The odd-lot”
Moving away from your standard round, rectangular and square shapes we are seeing some revamped traditional shapes. Injecting a new take on them for the next season and beyond. Some may say these shapes look odd but you will find something that suits you. Whether it is a subtle version or an over-the-top version.
Third trend: “Earthy shades”
Tinted glasses were big news around four seasons ago and now they are back again but in the form of earthy tones. So, we are seeing the browns, greens and some greys. Some tints are dark and some are light. With the combination of the earthy colours and a lighter tint, this trend could be worn easily from day to night or even wear them indoors to keep you looking chic no matter on the occasion.
I hope this blog post is giving you something different to read about. Otherwise everything is related to COVID-19 at the moment. Stay safe and healthy everyone. We will meet again.
