A new brand from Saudi Arabia CONES & RODS was recently launched. I was quite excited when I was saw this because I see so many brands from Europe, seeing a brand from somewhere I am so unfamiliar with seems exciting and unknown territory to me. I also quite liked what the brand has to offer, being eco-conscious, which is something we can no longer ignore. May I just add, this pandemic is causing everyone a lot of stress but our planet is healing, this is truly amazing and beautiful, it is just sad it is in these circumstances.
CONES & RODS is founded by friends Faye El-seif and Dalal Almousa over their shared passion for vintage eyewear and so, their journey started three years ago.
CONES & RODS feels fast fashion it is something they want to move away from. It produces too much energy and waste so, they are on a mission to inspire a movement within our society as well as the global eyewear industry. Did you know? Roughly over 50% of all eyewear made in the world gets thrown away, with this in mind CONES & RODS make sure to only create a limited quantity of each style to keep energy and waste level down.
With an eye for change the collection currently includes four styles; Adah, Alhazen, Gibran and Zaha. Each pair within the collection is designed and named after an inspirational person of Arab origin who has done something wonderful for the world. People referenced in the first collection are architect Zaha Hadid, scientist Dr. Adah Almutairi, poet Gibran Khalil Gibran and ‘father of optics and vision theory’ AlHazen.
I would love to see these first hand but obviously, it is quite hard now with COVID19. I like the fact they are producing limited quantities and being more conscious of the environment and pay homage to their origin. When this pandemic is over I am pretty sure it will change a lot of things. Such as the way businesses operate to how consumers will consume things and the topic on the environment will also be huge. We are heading into a bad recession so what can your eyewear brand do to stand out from the crowd? That will be another question.
It is nice to see a new brand launching even during these very uncertain times. Good luck CONES & RODS, I look forward to getting my hands on a pair when I can!
