Wow, wow, wow! Milan fashion week A/W 2020 feels like a lifetime ago now after all that has been going on with the pandemic and remember, the pandemic really kicked off after all the A/W 2020 fashion shows took place in Europe. If you also remember, regions near Milan in Italy were badly hit by the Coronavirus back in March. It is crazy to think we are are now coming to the end of 2020 and the pandemic is still here and impacting each and everyone of us differently.
Enough of the doom and gloom. I want to revisit the pre-pandemic time with this blog post and borrow some images from EyeRepublic (Thank you EyeRepublic) with some of the street style shots from back in March 2020 during Milan fashion week. All photos were taken by Mary Galtseva for EyeRepublic.
I wanted to do this post now and so long after because I felt back then it was a bit inappropriate with what was going on around the world and this really wasn’t as important. Plus, I thought this is a nice way to end 2020 and go into 2021. Street style always has a strong influence in what will remain fashionable. These fashionistas are always ahead of the fashion game and able to shift or bring in new fashion movement.
From the images, I can identify 3 key trends to look for that I think shall remain with us well into 2021.
Shield me please
Shield shades were becoming a thing anyway pre-pandemic but I think this will be a strong post-pandemic trend because people will be more conscious of covering their faces. If you need to be practical with your eyewear, you might as well make it fashionable. Go big, (not necessary bold) or go home. If you wish to, go sheer, with almost see through aka tinted lenses so you can wear them inside or outside for around the clock protection and staying chic.
Make it small
From one extreme to another. The Matrix style sunglasses will be back in force. This trend is pretty much influenced by the 90’s fashion trend that is happening right now. I mean think about all the scrunchies we are seeing at the moment. This trend will carry though into 2021 because Matrix 4 is due to be released in Spring/ Summer 2021. This film was a huge hit the first time round and no doubt it will be again. This will for sure impact sunglasses trends come Summer 2021.
This trend is about the going bold with the temples, going wide and chunky. This trend doesn’t necessarily mean the shape of the frame itself has got to be big and bold, the emphasis will be the temple. This is almost like another take on the shield. It is all about protection post-pandemic. This trend may give the wearer a sense of protection and being strong.
What is your favourite trend from these lot of fashionistas? There will be other trends feeding through into 2021 too, moving forward looking ahead into the future and probably into 2022. Things may become more minimalistic as people’s shopping habits and behaviours change during the pandemic.
On this note, let’s hope by Summer 2021, we can wave bye bye to Covid-19 and life will be more or less back to the way we remember where we can see friends and family without restrictions.
