Many parts of the world are now slowly getting back to some form of normality, heading closer towards the post-pandemic life that we could have only dreamed about around a year or so ago. For the optical sector, no big optical shows have taken place yet. Most are postponed until spring time so hopefully soon enough, we can all head to an optical show again. On the other hand, fashion week has been in full swing, live shows are back on again.
A/W 2022 Fashion Week Eyewear Trends
During fashion week, one of my favourite things to do is to check out the eyewear trends that we may expect to see in the coming months. I also want to take this opportunity to say it is great to see so many more Asian faces on the catwalk this season.
Ok, so, what are the trends that I spotted from the images and videos I have watched? Before we start, I just wanted to do a quick image disclaimer. All images are from Vogue.com in the Vogue runway section.
I feel there are 3 key trends from the A/W 2022 show. There is this one look in particular that I am not really sure I can call a trend but I will mention it and note it down as one to watch.
Trend One – Googly Eyes
When I say googly eyes, yes, I am talking about round frames but with a focus on the lenses. The lens finishing giving us the illusion of a round dome like vibe. Almost like a fish eye or as I like to call it, a googly eye. I think for this season, Giorgio Armani served that look best.
Trend Two – Going Grand
Large shades are nothing new and have been here for a couple of seasons now but for A/W 2022, the lens colour has got darker and the rim of the frames are getting thicker to almost seamlessly blend in with the lenses.
Trend Three – Squared Cateye
Finally, the cateye that just keeps on coming back. We cannot get enough of this timeless style. So for A/W 2022, we are seeing some squared off cateye shapes where the bottom part of the frame been cut off at a straight line. With the corners still containing that classic cateye flick, but with a more rounded edge.
One to watch…
The one to watch trend is the odd shape trend. Basically two lenses that are different in size and shape. not something new in the optical sector and I know some brands has been doing it for years. It is interesting to see it on the fashion catwalk and I would love to see more from this and watch how it evolves.
So, yes. Now, it is the end of the fashion weeks, this has been my round up of eyewear trends from the fashion week A/W 2022 shows. I really cannot wait to check out an optical show again to get a better picture of emerging trends. It will be amazing to see glasses first hand again.
