Eyewear Trends Spotted During Mido 2023

One of my favourite things about going to Optical shows is spotting emerging eyewear trends and of course I was doing just that during Mido 2023. Even though I was not there for the entire duration of the show, I did spot 3 prominent trends because I literally saw them at every stand I visited or walked past.  So, what can opticians and consumers expect to see more of?

Geometric

First up we have geometric shapes. This trend works best with bold chunky acetate as the choice of material because it is adding a punch of style to your wardrobe without over-accessorising. This trend is eye catching and work best for sunglasses styles. However, there are filtered down versions to make it optical friendly too so it is suitable for everyday wear.

Chiseled

Then we have sculpted frames, the frame started its life as a bulky acetate frame but it get chiseled down and shaved off carefully to 1) give the illusion of a smaller frame and 2) to give the frame a different dynamic at different angles. Some of the chiseled sections may also be in a different textures or with different finishings to really give the frame the unconventional vibe, without being too overwhelming for the wearer. Works well for both optical and sunglasses styles.

Co-ordinating

Finally, we have coordinating lenses. A subtle lens colour to either match the frame colour or a lens colour that lifts the frame colour to give it a new demeanour and mood. This trend is definitely best suited to sunglasses styles and it is transferable between acetate and coloured metal frames.
