Mido 2023 Rundown

How can Mido 2023 be all over already, what a show it was. This Mido 2023 edition really feels like the beginning of an exciting journey ahead after a turbulent few years with Covid. To me, this Mido 2023 really felt like we can truly leave the Covid era behind and focus on the future. The show was as impressive as ever, it is truly an international show. Want to know why? Here are the stats;

  • Attendance peaked at 35,000

  • 72% were international exhibitors and 28% from Italy
  • Among the overseas exhibitors, 51% were from Europe, 42% from Asia and 7% from the rest of the world
  • 15,000 shares on social media between posts and stories

Made in Italy Press Preview

Attending such a humongous international show like Mido, you really need the full 3 days there but unfortunately, I was only able to be there for one day this time due to it being my youngest daughter’s birthday. As a mother, I did not want to miss it.

However, I was invited to the press preview on the Friday, the day before Mido 2023 opened its doors. The press preview was an exclusive event for press and buyers to view select brands that are made in Italy. I have always enjoyed this press preview because it is a great opportunity to check out some really cool stuff. It is a well organised event and it really gives us the opportunity to take a look at some of the brands carefully and speak to the people behind the brand in more depth.

Some of my favourites were Patos for it’s quirkiness, Junk Plastic Rehab for the eco factor with a very cool twist and Giorgio Nannini for their colourful and bold shapes.

Day 1 of Mido 2023

The day after the press preview is always day 1 of M

ido (Saturday 4th Feb).  I really felt overwhelmed simply because I knew I would not get the opportunity to see everything. Therefore, I had to really pick and choose carefully. My favourite zone is always the Lab Academy so I headed straight there to check out some new start up brands, niche independent brands and quite a few Asian brands for Mido 2023. Some of my favourites were Unsuikyo for the nature element using stone and wood, Nina Mur for some super fun wooden frames that are light and Taitit for an interesting combo in colour, material and style.

I will be doing a separate blog post on trends I have spotted during Mido 2023 because I think if I try to cram everything into one blog post, it will be a very long read for you all.

Special thanks

Lastly, I just want to take the opportunity to thank Mido and the Italian Trade Agency for having me again at the show. It is always an honour and I never take it for granted and hope to be invited back each year. The organisation to get us press there is timed to perfection, from flights and transfers to hotels and of course travel to the show. It is an immaculate operation. Thank you!

I would also like to thank The Eyewear Forum (TEF) for giving me the opportunity to do the Mido 2023 social media take over. It was great fun and I hope it was interesting for TEF followers too.

Mido 2024 will be from 3- 5th February.
