Back on February 14th 2023 to be exact, Fashion house Louis Vuitton announced that Pharrell Williams will be stepping up as the new creative director for the brand. It was announced that his first collection would be revealed in June 2023, and here we are. This anticipated collection was down the catwalk on the evening of 20th June. The first day of men’s fashion week in Paris.

The eyewear

I am of course more interested in the eyewear myself and I had high hopes that Pharrell Williams would include lots of eyewear for his first collection because he seems to be a big fan of eyewear himself. He did not disappoint me at all. There were a lot of cool eyewear down that catwalk and here are some of my favs.

What did I think?

Well… they are certainly very cool and he definitely played it safe by having eyewear that he would wear himself, so it isn’t anything new that we have not seen before. It is basically a very Pharrell Williams collection, which I think we all expected.

If you are a mega fan of his then you probably will be buying them without question, but if you want something more classic Louis Vuitton then this first collection may not be the one for you. From my point of view, I always felt Pharrell Williams has a very cool dress sense and he certainly knows what style means, but we will have to watch this space and see how he is going to flex his creative muscles.

What next?

For me, I think it would be cool to see the next collection being less Pharrell Williams and more Louis Vuitton and this is just me talking from an eyewear point of view. Nevertheless, I think they are cool but not exactly sure if I would wear them myself. They are not my style and there are some really difficult shapes to wear.

Would you buy them?

In a nutshell, from a glasses point of view, there are some really fashion forward shapes and designs BUT I don’t think these are commercial enough to draw a wider audience. At the end of the day, eyewear is a stepping stone for most consumers to buy into a brand. I am not convinced the eyewear will suit everyone.- it will certainly not suit me! I am just not as cool as Pharrell Williams to pull those off. Ha!

Fun fact, the sunglasses Pharrell Williams wore himself during the LV show were actually a custom frame by Tiffany&Co.
