Trends at Hong Kong Optical fair 2023
Can you believe it has already been a week since the international Hong Kong Optical Fair started? The final write-up from my trip to Hong Kong is my favourite one—I always save it for last. It highlights the trends I spotted during the show.
Is the glasses trend different across different parts of the world? Absolutely! However, what I find fascinating is how these diverse trends often converge and harmoniously influence one another.
Two trends to look out for
Throughout the 3-day duration of the Hong Kong International Optical Fair, I came across 2 prominent emerging trends, namely “Matted” and “delicate hues”. What are they?
Round frames clearly dominate the Asian market – their prevalence at the show is evident in every aspect. I was then focused on colours, textures, and materials. Metal frames truly took centre stage, overshadowing the few acetate frames that, although present, appeared almost imitating the graceful delicacy of their thin metal counterparts.
Aside from those two key points, the two emerging trends that stood out were the use of matte colours with silk finishes for both plastic and metal frames. The incorporation of matte colours adds a touch of sophistication and elegance, while the silk finish enhances the overall look and feel. It’s worth noting that the matte colours are not flat in appearance, as they boast a subtle glossy overlay that adds depth and richness.
The second trend revolves around embracing gentle and subtle tones. These colours are not quite pastel nor a diluted version of a bolder hue. They exude a genuine sense of comfort for those who wear them. These tones radiate a warm, tranquil, peaceful and yet sophisticated vibe.
I am thrilled to conclude my trip to the Hong Kong Optical Fair 2023. It was truly a pleasure to cover this extraordinary show, and I am genuinely honoured to be invited back. The opportunity bestowed upon me is something I will forever be grateful for. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to HKTDC for their exceptional hospitality. Now, I eagerly await my next show, Opti 2024! I cannot wait!
