Recap on Opti 2024

I can’t believe Opti 2024 has already been and gone. This show sure signal the start of exciting new developments in the optical world. For me, Opti strikes the perfect balance – it’s large enough to be engaging without being overwhelming, offering plenty to see and experience. Typically, I’d immerse myself in the full three-day spectacle (like what I did there. he!) , but this year, due to childcare meant I had to wrap up in just two days. For the two days I was there, it was absolutely heaving with visitors to a point where there is no space in the stand for me to go and view some glasses.

So, what did I get up to at Opti 2024? What were my impressions of the show? My adventure began in Munich, a day ahead of the official opening, with a delightful press dinner. Discussions ranged from the German optical sector to what we could anticipate at the show – a truly enjoyable evening.

What happened during Opti 2024?

Opti 2024 kicked off on Friday, 12th January, with an exclusive pre-opening tour organised by the hosts. This insightful tour showed us all some key highlights of the show and expanded my perspective as an eyewear enthusiast, offering a deeper understanding of the optical sector – from eyewear to contact lenses and industry advancements. One standout innovation that resonated with me was Lenzbox, an all-in-one solution for monthly contact lens users. Having previously suffered from eye ulcers, I appreciate the convenience of this device, which reduces the need for separate solutions and cases, especially while traveling.

After the tour, I delved into the heart of Opti 2024, exploring everything from eyewear fashion to lenses and optical store design. A special shoutout to Heikaus Architecture for inspiring new ways to organise my glasses collection at home! I also had the pleasure of attending a trend talk by New York-based eyewear designer Selin Olmsted.

Among my favourite discoveries was the Opti Box area, a treasure trove of new and innovative brands. This year, Skans eyewear, winner of the Opti Box award, captivated me with its elegantly simple designs and compelling brand story. Another exciting find was the vibrant new kids’ brand, Mantl Manti.

Thank you to the Opti team for having me at the show once again and may I add, the party during the opening night on Friday 12th was amazing!!! It ended at 10pm, and everyone was sad (myself included.ha!) Team Opti knows how to throw a good party that’s for sure. Save the date for Opti 2025, happening from January 31st to February 2nd. See you there!
