From November 6-8, 2024, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre played host to the 32nd edition of the Hong Kong International Optical Fair. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), this year’s fair showcased a rich tapestry of cutting-edge eyewear technology and sustainable practices, drawing an impressive crowd of 13,000 buyers from across 94 countries.
Eco-Friendly Innovations Lead the Way
This year’s fair was particularly notable for its emphasis on eco-friendly and smart eyewear solutions. Kevin Ching from Winky International highlighted the fair’s success in attracting European buyers keen on sustainable products. His company’s biodegradable and bio-based eyewear options epitomise the industry’s shift towards more environmentally conscious manufacturing processes.
Smart Eyewear on the Rise
Kenny Cheung of Solos Technology introduced the AirGo™ Vision smart eyewear, featuring ChatGPT-4o functionality, which became a focal point for buyers interested in the fusion of fashion and technology. This product caters not only to the youthful demographic but also offers practical solutions for the elderly and visually impaired, underscoring the fair’s broad appeal.

A Hotspot for Global Eyewear Trends
The fair featured over 700 exhibitors with a dazzling array of products displayed across 12 specialised zones. The Brand Name Gallery was a highlight, presenting 200 renowned international brands like STEPPER, VIVIENNE WESTWOOD, and more, ensuring that all attendees had access to the latest trends and styles in eyewear.
Fostering Design and Innovation
The 24th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, themed “Be Bold”, was another highlight, showcasing local talent and innovative designs to a global audience. Lin Dianqun’s Ceramic Eyewear range, inspired by traditional Chinese ceramic art, was the standout winner, combining cultural heritage with modern eyewear design.

Continuing Connections Beyond the Fair
The fair also introduced innovative ways to connect buyers and exhibitors through the Click2Match platform, allowing for extended interaction and engagement beyond the physical event. This feature, along with the Scan2Match system, facilitated deeper connections and ongoing business opportunities, highlighting the fair’s role not just as an event, but as a crucial link in the global optical industry.
