If you’ve ever felt like your glasses hide your best makeup efforts, you’re not alone! I hear you! However, with a few clever tweaks, your eyes can pop, your brows can frame perfectly, and your cheeks can glow – all while keeping things comfortable and fuss-free under your frames. Let’s dive into the details!

Eye Makeup That Pops (and Lasts!)

Why It Matters

Glasses can cast shadows or even make eyes look smaller, so a little extra effort here makes a big difference. The right products and techniques can help your eyes stand out, stay smudge-free, and look wide awake all day (very important for me as a mum).

1. Choose the Right Eyeshadow Formula

Liquid and Cream Eyeshadows: These are your best friends! They’re less likely to flake or crease, especially when your frames trap a bit of heat or humidity around your eyes. Look for long-wear or waterproof formulas for extra staying power.

Tip: Apply with your fingertip for a sheer, even wash, or build up with a brush for more intensity. Let each layer dry before adding more to avoid creasing.

2. Mind the Finish: Less Glitter, More Glow

Avoid Heavy Shimmer: Glasses lenses can amplify sparkle, sometimes making shimmer or glitter look a bit over-the-top or even messy. Opt for satin or matte finishes for a more flattering, soft-focus effect.

If You Love Shimmer: Stick to the inner corners of your eyes – this brightens without overwhelming.

3. Lash Love: Curl and Waterproof

Curl Your Lashes: Lifting your lashes opens up your eyes and helps prevent them from brushing against your lenses. Invest in a good eyelash curler and give your lashes a gentle squeeze before applying mascara. They add length, volume, and definition while reducing the need for daily eye makeup

Waterproof Mascara: This is a must for summer! It resists smudging, even if your frames sit close to your lashes or if you get a little sweaty. Focus mascara on the roots for lift and separation, rather than piling it on the tips. For an even more effortless look, consider lash extensions in London.

How about some Falsies: My personal favourite is wearing Tatti Lashes, they are fake eyelashes that you glue from under your lash and they last between 1 – 2 weeks depending how well you look after them.

4. Define, Don’t Overdo: Eyeliner Placement

Thin Line Above the Lash Line: Drawing your liner just above the lashes (not on the waterline) helps define your eyes and makes them look bigger, especially if your frames are bold or dark.

Go for Brown or Deep Plum: Sometimes black can look harsh under glasses. A softer colour can enhance without overpowering.

Brows and Balance: Frame Your Face

Why It Matters

Your frames naturally draw attention to your brows, so a little grooming goes a long way and even more important for us glasses wearer. However,  it’s easy to over do it especially if you’re trying to “compete” with bold glasses.

1. Shape and Tidy

Keep Brows Neat: Regularly brush through and trim any unruly hairs. If you’re plucking or waxing, follow your natural arch for the most flattering shape.

Don’t Over-Pluck: Sparse brows can get lost behind glasses, I am definitely on team eu-natural.

2. Filling In: Soft and Subtle

Use Powder or Pencil: A soft brow powder or a fine pencil mimics real hair and gives a natural finish. Avoid heavy pomades or gels unless your brows are very sparse.

Choose the Right Shade: Go a shade lighter than your hair if your frames are dark, or match your roots for a harmonious look.

3. Set and Forget

Brow Gel: A clear or lightly tinted brow gel keeps everything in place, especially on hot days. Brush up and out for a lifted, youthful look.

Blush, Bronzer, and Brightness: Bring Back the Glow

Why It Matters

Glasses can sometimes “flatten” your features, especially in photos or under strong sunlight. A little colour on your cheeks brings dimension and life back to your face and in-fact, that is my go- to and I don’t bother with much else.

Cream Blush for a Natural Flush

Why Cream? Cream blushes melt into the skin, giving a dewy, fresh look that lasts even in summer heat. They’re less likely to cake or settle where your frames touch your cheeks.

How to Apply: Smile and tap blush onto the apples of your cheeks, then blend upwards towards your temples. This lifts your face and prevents colour from being hidden by your frames.

Bronzer for Definition

Add Warmth: Sweep a light matte bronzer along your cheekbones, hairline, and jaw for subtle definition. Avoid heavy contouring – just a touch of warmth makes all the difference.

Glasses Tip: If your frames are oversized, focus bronzer higher on the cheeks to keep the effect visible.

Highlight Smartly

Don’t Overdo Highlighter: A subtle highlight on the tops of your cheeks and brow bone can catch the light beautifully, but too much can look shiny under glass lenses. Choose a cream or liquid formula for a soft sheen.

Your Summer, your Shine

The right makeup can make your eyes stand out, your brows frame your face, and your cheeks glow – all without fighting your frames. Whether you’re heading to a summer festival, a garden party, or just out for iced coffee, these tricks will help you look and feel your best.
