I’ve been waiting for this moment to share this blog post, and now, after over 18 months of waiting, the time has finally come! What’s the exciting news? The big secret is that I’ve been working on an eyewear project specifically designed for the gaming market – XP-Pro Eyewear, my own range of gaming glasses.
The Spark: Discovering XP-Pro Lenses
In 2023, I wrote an article about a lens called XP-Pro, designed to alleviate eyestrain and fatigue for gamers. These specialist gaming lenses are ideal for people who spend hours on screens. Intrigued from the start, my husband, who is a keen gamer, and I decided to put them to the test as our own gaming glasses. We were instantly impressed, experiencing significant relief from eyestrain, reduced digital eye fatigue and enjoying a newfound sense of restfulness and reduced fatigue in our eyes after long gaming sessions.
From that moment on, my husband and I became completely hooked, leading me to write an article about them for my editor at NZOptics. She was equally intrigued, particularly since she has older teenage children who love to game too and could really benefit from glasses for gaming that help reduce blue light and eye strain.
Turning an Idea Into Reality: From Lenses to Gaming Glasses
By Christmas 2024, an idea came to us because we wanted everyone to experience what we have experienced: although the lenses weren’t widely discussed in the optical industry, how many gamers actually visit their opticians to report eye strain from gaming? Sure, people might complain about prolonged computer use for work, but gaming eye strain is a different story.
Furthermore, gaming lenses should ideally be paired with frames specifically designed for gaming. It simply doesn’t make sense to go to an optician for gaming lenses or blue light blocking gaming glasses and then choose a random frame to go with them. Gamers need comfortable, well‑fitting frames that work for PC gaming, console gaming and long streaming sessions.
Partnering Up and Building the XP-Pro Eyewear Collection
I saw an opportunity, so I contacted the company that produces the lenses and negotiated a partnership. After months of dedication and getting my husband (who is passionate about gaming) onboard with this venture, I am thrilled to announce today the launch of XP-Pro Eyewear – a dedicated collection of gaming glasses.

Designing the frame was an intense experience, especially given my background as an optical journalist. I’ve reviewed countless collections and criticised many, but now it’s my chance to present a cohesive line that resonates with gamers and genuinely works as performance gaming glasses.
While I’m not a hardcore gamer myself, I’ve worked on it with my husband and sought expert guidance on glasses design as I know how in‑depth the process is. Together, we focused on what gamers actually need from their glasses – comfort for long sessions, a good fit with headsets and frames that feel like part of their gaming set‑up, not an afterthought.
I was determined to create a collection that stood out; I didn’t want to simply select generic glasses shapes and add lenses. Each frame needed to be recognisable as XP-Pro gaming eyewear, so each frame contained some subtle bevels, angular edges and colours that resonated with gamers. Hopefully, in the future when people see those design details, they know it is XP-Pro Eyewear – gaming glasses designed for gamers immediately.
What I Learned About Eyewear Design (and Fit for Gaming)
I’ve also gained a new respect for glasses designers; their job is challenging as they strive to make glasses that fit most people well. After months of going back and forth regarding nose fitting, temple lengths and angles, I realised that achieving the perfect fit for everyone is nearly impossible. In the end, we decided to go for the average sizing metric to create gaming glasses that fit most faces comfortably.
Fit is so important when it comes to glasses for gaming, because if your frames pinch, slide or feel heavy, you’ll notice it even more during long gaming sessions.
A Personal Journey: Balancing Work, Family, and Passion
If you have been following MyGlassesAndMe (MGAM) since day one then I hope you know my love for eyewear runs deep. I am feeling excited and nervous all at the same time as I know I cannot please everyone but for the first collection, I certainly did my best and feel proud of each frame in this XP-Pro gaming glasses range.
It hasn’t been an easy journey as my husband and myself still had our regular jobs to balance because we need to put food on the table and a roof over our heads whilst being parents to our two young daughters. There have been many late nights working on this project and sleepless nights over nose fitting and worrying if we made the right decision. Many friends and family asked do we hate each other yet, ha!
